Can’t label custom settings??
Just received this and it’s pretty amazing except for one thing….you can create custom preset temps for items but you can’t label or name them?? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose?I also think the probe could be a bit longer. Also can’t find info anywhere as to whether this can be used for bread.

Prior to owning this, I had to keep asking Alexa or searching online, what the correct temperature for my meats were. I could never remember!However, this is a problem no more! All I need to do is select the meat I’m cooking, select the done-ness I need, stick it in and it’ll tell me whether it’s ready or not. Genius!I love the fact it’s rechargeable via USB C – you won’t need to worry about batteries running out and sourcing new ones.Opening out the temperature probe turns the unit on. Simply folding it back in turns it off.The screen is actually quite large and it feels like it’s running some sort of version of Android. I’m unsure whether that’s the actually case (the fact that it loads up very quickly indicates this might not be true – but it certainly has the feel of it).There’s a power indicator to show how much battery you have left in the top right hand corner.The settings allow you to change the units of temperature used (C/F), language, brightness and you can reset the device to it’s factory defaults.It reads the temperature very quickly when inserted.It also comes with a nice little fabric pouch to keep it safe in your kitchen drawerI love it. Feels like a properly futuristic way to cook 🙂

This AWLKIM instant-read thermometer is considerably better value than I expected for its price ($35.99 at the time of writing). First off, it’s USB rechargeable. Not having to try to find button batteries – in a store or in a drawer – is such a convenience!The display is super-simple, and very easy to read/understand. Intuitive, and easy to go “back” if you’re just wanting to see what the options are – you don’t have to start over just because you wanted to test something!The settings let you switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius, different languages, and brightness.It has built-in temperature ranges by meat! So, you just touch the “cooking” button, pick, say, “beef”, and it’ll give you the rare-medium-well range so you don’t have to remember. It’s even got some relatively unusual meat options, including ostrich and venison, and the “fish” option has several different fish choices.The overall design is nice, too. The probe tucks slightly into itself, so even if you don’t store it in the (included) pouch, you’re not going to stab your finger when you reach for it.Okay, it feels a smidge light and… “cheap” is too strong a word, but it doesn’t have the same “you can drop this and not worry” feel of some of the better-known brands. It’s possible it’s hardier than I suspect, but I’m not going to drop it to find out. Partly because I like it and want to keep it!In my testing, it registered at roughly half a degree (Fahrenheit) lower than my existing instant-read folding thermometer. I can’t guarantee which one is the more accurate, and in any case, as long as the temp registers consistently, half a degree is easy to work around.I will definitely be using this a lot!

This instant read thermometer is wonderful. The display is nice and large and clear and best of all, backlit! I love how it’s rechargeable so I no longer have to go hunting for CR2032 batteries anymore.I tested this and it works just like a regular instant read thermometer, for large temperature changes, it registers quickly, for small changes, like reading air temperature, it takes a while to adjust to the minute differences in temperature.You don’t have to open it fully for it to start working, just a 45° angle will turn it on.There is an automatic timeout for the screen so if you’re not using it, the screen will dim before it turns itself off completely.Screen brightness can be adjusted, and it comes set at the max brightness level. It also comes fully charged.When you rotate the thermometer, it automatically goes into the temperature reading screen so you don’t have to use the programmed or custom meat settings to use it, so if you already know the safe temperature for your meat then you don’t have to deal with them at all.The only things which I noticed is that there is no magnet on the back, so it’s not meant for you to stick to your fridge as it comes with its own soft cloth bag for storage.The battery charge level indicator is also rather small. For something with such a large display available, I don’t understand why they couldn’t make the charge status larger.Charging the unit turns the screen on automatically, but it’s a fixed icon with no large charging status screen, just the regular temperature reading screen shows up with the charge level indicator to show that it’s charging. The screen will automatically time out and turn off. When fully charged, the battery icon shows all bars full and the lightning bolt on the battery is gone.While charging, you cannot use it.Overall, it’s a wonderful device and it works well, and as far as I can tell, it is accurate, at least for air temperature as I have something else to compare it to. My other meat thermometer died recently because the batteries are dead so I couldn’t compare the two.

I got tired of guessing how cooked some meats were, especially when cooking meats I’m unfamiliar with like beef…for my friends. So, rather than risk our health or overcook meat, this thermometer has come in handy!The kit comes with the thermometer, a nice velvet pouch, a USB-c charging cable, and a manual. I personally would’ve appreciated if the pouch wasn’t a material that would absorb wetness or stained easily. Something nylon or just easy to wipe down would’ve been nice. However, that doesn’t take away from the beauty of this unit.The large LCD touch screen allows for crystal clear display of everything from temperature to the variety of meats you can cook and check the temp of. You can even select for level of doneness!You can change between Fahrenheit or Celsius as well.I think this is a well designed, easy to charge and use piece of equipment, suitable for any amateur cook in the kitchen.

I do have a couple of other meat thermometers but I was intrigued to find what was different with this one given it is much more expensive than my existing ones. Firstly, it does look much better quality. It comes in a box so smart you almost expect to contain an item of jewellery. You could make it a gift if there is someone in your life who enjoys receiving kitchen equipment for their birthday! The thermometer itself feels robust and well made. I like the optimum temperatures for various meats being engraved on the side and the fact that you can choose Celsius or Fahrenheit. A very useful touch. It is rechargeable which is useful in that you don’t need batteries but I also have a trusted old one in a different design (like a mushroom with a spike) that doesn’t need either (I assume as I’ve been using it for years and have never thought about it!) It would be a bit of a pain to get to the point of using this and find it needed to be recharged. With that reservation it is easy to recommend this.
